Specially created for the 30th ISL World Lymphology Congress, this brooch/pendant is inspired by the Twin Idol figure of Anatolia’s Bronze Age.
It symbolizes the resilience of women after breast cancer, the awareness in the struggle against lymphedema, and the healing power of solidarity.
The side-by-side posture of the two figures represents not only the union of bodies but also the connection of hearts and hopes — a symbol of sisterhood.
It stands as a tribute both to the healing force of art and to the hope science brings in reshaping life.
This porcelain piece fired at 1200°C was produced non-commercially by ibibik.art “Art Illuminating Science” studio.
THE TWIN IDOLS
Belonging to the Early Bronze Age of Anatolia, the golden Twin Idol figure was discovered in Alaca Höyük within a woman’s grave, arranged in a row of five pieces near the chin of the deceased.
Its head is axe-shaped with a very slender neck; the upper part likely represents the torso, while the triangular lower section indicates the limbs.
In the conjoined gold idols, the eyes, breasts, and navel are rendered in repoussé technique as raised reliefs.
The figures measure approximately 3×3 cm and are exhibited at the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara.
